Tucson winters may be mild, but that does not mean you can neglect your pool. Your pool should be ready for the coming winter, so continue reading to learn if your pool is ready.
It is absolutely crucial that you continue to clean your pool during the winter. Plants and trees shed their leaves late in the winter, meaning your pool will collect debris from your yard well into the winter months. The pool must be cleaned out a few times a week to ensure the leaves do not clog up your pool filter. Be sure to vacuum your pool just as regularly to clean the walls of any buildup.
Store Equipment Correctly
Unless you have installed a pool heater, you may not be using your pool much during the winter months. With this in mind, your pool equipment and toys may not be used as much. To keep your equipment free from damage and working properly in the spring and summer, ensure it is stored correctly. Your pool toys should also be stored correctly, preferably in a dry and low humid area that is free from sunlight.
Maintain the Chemicals
The chemicals that you or your pool contractor use on a regular basis should be maintained throughout the year. Algae and other bacteria can still grow in your pool during the winter, though it may be rare. Speak with your pool contractor about how to maintain your pool’s safe chemical balance throughout the winter.
Though frozen pipes may be somewhat rare in Tucson, they are definitely not unheard of. To ensure the piping to your pool does not freeze, keep pipes well insulated with outer pipe insulation. If there is a freeze warning, you may consider turning off your pool’s filtration and plumbing access for that evening. Your Tucson pool contractor can better advise you on the necessary steps.
