Bromine stays more stable than chlorine at spa temperatures and is less reactive to pH swings, which matters when several people use the spa at once. Once pH climbs above 8.0, chlorine can become sluggish and its effectiveness can drop below 50 percent, while bromine holds up.

Comfort, odor, and reactivation

Beyond stability, bromine is gentler on skin and eyes and produces far less odor, which matters in a small, warm, enclosed body of water. There is another advantage: the bromamines bromine produces keep their sanitizing power and can be reactivated with a non-chlorine shock, whereas chloramine is spent once used and simply burns out of the water.
