Spillover spa with stone tiles

Spillover spas are a popular choice because they create a clear visual connection between the pool and spa and place both in the same area, making it easy to move between them. This design uses a beautiful stone tile finish whose earth tones look gorgeous against the Arizona desert landscape, with travertine on the spa and surrounding deck that is cool to the touch and slip-resistant. As the water falls into the pool, it provides calming background noise, and the stone tile shape shifts subtly from the back of the spa to the front for a pleasing contrast.

For this spa, blue tiles face the pool while stonework wraps the back. The blue tiles reflect beautifully in the pool water and help the spa stand out against the desert backdrop, and travertine around the spa adds both slip resistance and a natural look.

This combination has a more contemporary feel, with an angular pool shape, gray tiles, and travertine coping. The spa spills into the pool in a unique way: instead of a single stream, the water flows over several tiled steps, and along with the pool’s other water features it creates a resort-like oasis.

Minimalist spa within an infinity pool

Spillovers are not your only option. Here the spa sits on the same level as the pool, directly inside it. The spa border uses the same tile color as the rest of the pool, creating a subtle barrier and keeping the two fully integrated, with a seamless transition from the spa to the pool and from the infinity edge to the landscape. The spa is slightly elevated so swimmers can find it, and the bright tile contrasts with poolside fire features for an inviting look.
